Start With The Exact Mail Settings
Do not guess the server name or ports. Open cPanel, locate the email account, and view the mail-client configuration. Use the secure settings shown there.
Choose IMAP For Most Users
IMAP keeps messages synchronized between the server and devices. POP can download messages in a way that makes multi-device use more difficult.
Typical Information Required
- Email address
- Mailbox password
- Incoming server
- Outgoing server
- IMAP and SMTP ports
- SSL or TLS setting
- Authentication enabled for outgoing mail
The Username Is Usually The Full Email Address
Using only the part before the @ symbol is a common mistake. Enter the complete mailbox address unless the provider says otherwise.
Outgoing Mail Needs Authentication
SMTP normally requires the same username and password as incoming mail. Make sure the phone is not set to use an unauthenticated outgoing server.
Certificate Warnings Should Not Be Ignored
If the phone reports a certificate mismatch, verify the correct secure server hostname. Do not simply accept an unexpected certificate on a business mailbox.
Test Sending And Receiving
Send a message to another account, reply to it, and confirm both directions work. If receiving works but sending fails, review SMTP authentication and the outgoing port.
